A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a special event hosted by Suncoast Basset Rescue at the Lazy Dog Restaurant in Boca Raton. As a pet photographer based in South Florida, I often get to witness the deep bond between people and their dogs — but this event was something different. It was a celebration of second chances, long ears, and big hearts.
Suncoast Basset Rescue: Giving Bassets a Second Chance
Suncoast Basset Rescue’s mission is simple and powerful: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Basset Hounds throughout Florida — whether they’ve been abandoned, surrendered, or found as strays. Their love for the breed shines through in everything they do.
During the event, I had the chance to speak with Christopher Thomas, the Vice President of Suncoast Basset Rescue. He’s an incredibly kind and passionate person who clearly cares deeply about each and every Basset they work with. You can tell he’s truly dedicated to helping these dogs find safe, loving homes.
Photographing Adoptable Dogs at Lazy Dog Restaurant
The event itself was full of life — from the excited barks and wagging tails to the friendly volunteers and potential adopters. I brought my camera along and was lucky enough to photograph a few of the adoptable Basset Hounds.
Each dog had its own unique personality — from playful and goofy to gentle and calm. It was a joy to capture their expressions and energy in photographs, and I hope the images help them connect with forever families.

Let’s Capture the Love You Share With Your Dog
As a Boca Raton dog photographer, I love creating portraits that celebrate the bond between people and their pets — especially rescue dogs who’ve overcome the odds. Whether you’ve just welcomed a new pup into your life or want to honor the dog who’s been by your side for years, I’d be honored to photograph them.
